GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 4/7/2023

In our GMX7 Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming series, we celebrate swimmers of every age and experience level with age group profiles of some recent results.

Samuel Lofstrom, 14, Team Vortex (VOTX-CO): Lofstrom fired off a number of best times at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin in late March, highlighted by his effort in the 50 freestyle. The 14-year-old Team Vortex swimmer dropped a lifetime best of 20.61 to move into 15th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group, and he also moved to 66th all-time in the 100 back (50.58). Lofstrom added notable swims of 46.57 in the 100 free, 23.63 in the 50 back and 1:50.86 in the 200 back.

Riley Anderson, 14, Northeast Connecticut Aquatics (NCA-CT): Anderson rocketed up to 39th all-time for 13-14 girls in the 50 free at the Eastern Zone Sectionals, producing a time of 22.93, and the 14-year-old also hit notable bests of 50.95 in the 100 free, 56.81 in the 100 back and 55.53 in the 100 fly. The 100 free swim ranked her 16th in the 13-14 age group this season, while she slots into 27th in the 100 fly.

Trevor Boodt, 15, Highlands Ranch Aquatics (HRA-CO): Also competing at the Austin Sectionals, Highlands Ranch Aquatics’ Boodt broke the 2:00 barrier for the first time in the 200 breaststroke, clocking 1:59.46 to rank 16th all-time among 15-year-olds in the United States. He also swam a PB of 55.03 in the 100 breast to rank 23rd all-time.

Ellie Clarke, 13, Carmel Swim Club (CSC-IN): Competing at the Indianapolis Sectionals, Clarke put up six new best times in the long course pool, including a pair of blistering backstroke performances. Despite being just 13, Clarke broke into the top 100 all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group in both the 100 back (1:03.85) and 200 back (2:16.72), ranking 95th and 92nd, respectively.

Antonio Alejandro Belleza, 12, Club Wolverine (CW-MI): Belleza put up seven personal best times at the Michigan 14 & Age Group Championships, including doing so in all three butterfly races. Belleza logged a time of 55.29 in the 100 fly to rank seventh in the boys’ 11-12 age group this season, while he also moves into ninth in the 200 fly (2:07.01) and 10th in the 50 fly (25.35).

Grace Perry, 12, Falfins Swimming (FLFN-CO): Another swimmer competing at the Austin Sectionals, Perry notched new lifetime bests in the 50, 100 and 200 free, ranking inside the top 10 this season in the girls’ 11-12 age group in all of them. Her time of 52.44 in the 100 free ranks fifth in 2022-23, while her 1:54.62 in the 200 free sits eighth and her 24.39 in the 50 free ranks ninth. She added a best time of 2:12.50 in the 200 fly, which sits 19th this season for 11-12s.
