Riley Shea, 29, a swim coach in the far Northeastern suburbs of Detroit, has been given temporary restrictions by the US Center for SafeSport on what they’re calling “Allegations of Misconduct.”
The temporary restrictions include: No Unsupervised Coaching / Training, No Contact Directive(s), Contact / Communication Limitation(s).
The restrictions took effect on March 9, 2023.
Shea was formerly the boys swimming & diving head coach at Anchor Bay Athletics in New Baltimore, Michigan, where in 2020 he was named the Macomb County Coach of the Year after leading the team to a conference title.
He remained the coach there into the 2021-2022 season.
Shea was also formerly an associate head coach with the Lakers Aquatic Club, though that team no longer lists him on its website.
The US Center for SafeSport can apply suspensions or specific restrictions at any point in their investigative process. Prior cases have seen these interim restrictions turn into full-fledged suspensions or erased when cases are closed without findings of any Code of Conduct violations that warrant a full suspension.
Looks like this one wrapped up quickly..?
There was the polo coach that was put on temporary suspension in the Lansing area. Violated his suspension. Moved to West Michigan and was hired by a school district who knew about his history. Then was placed back on temporary suspension.
Is this the same Michigan coach from last time? I can’t remember, I feel like I’ve seen a lot of coaches from Michigan get put on the SafeSport list.
There was this one a few years back. Can’t recall any others off-hand.
