Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Jacob Wade has announced his commitment to Niagara University, beginning this upcoming fall with the 2023-2024 season. Wade is currently a senior at Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. He also trains and competes year-round with York YMCA in York, Pennsylvania.
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Niagara University! I picked Niagara because I thought it was the best fit for me to improve in and out of the water, and to carry on my dream of competing at the division 1 level. I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for getting me to this point. Go Purple Eagles!”
Wade focuses primarily on sprint and mid-distance freestyle events. He most recently competed at the 2023 Pennsylvania High School State Championship, where he advanced to finals in both of his individual events. He logged his highest finish in the 50 free at 4th where he posted a 20.95 in finals. His other individual event was the 100 free, where he took 5th overall in a personal best time of 45.94.
Prior to the state meet, Wade got some long course racing in at the Pro Series stop in Knoxville this January. He earned as high as 40th place in the 50m backstroke, where he posted a personal best time of 28.32. He also competed in the 50 free and 50 fly, where he finished 51st (24.85) and 61st (27.01). His fastest 50 free of the meet came in at 24.34, which he swam in a time trial.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 free – 20.89
- 100 free – 45.94
- 200 free – 1:42.41
- 100 back – 52.54
- 100 fly – 50.86
Niagara competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and is coming off a 3rd place finish at this year’s MAAC Championships. Wade’s best time in the 50 free would have qualified him just outside the A-final at this year’s meet, while his best 100 free would have landed him just inside the A-final.
Niagara’s sprint squad was led by Kevin Vu and Levi Morgan this year. Vu finished 3rd in the 50 free with a 20.44, while Morgan took 5th (20.66). Morgan was the team’s top finisher in the 100 at 3rd (44.78), while Reid Tichy finished close behind in 5th (45.45). Tichy and Morgan will still be on campus when Wade arrives, meaning Niagara should have a deep sprint group.
Wade joins James Coyne in Niagara’s class of 2027. Coyne is also a freestyle specialist, and owns best times of 22.63/47.45/1:43.22 in the 50/100/200 freestyle.
