Reigning NCAA 200 freestyle champion, Taylor Ruck, won the 200 free again last night with a time of 1:42.36. Ruck, a fifth-year for Stanford–what she refers to as a “fifth-year granny,” shares what it has been like with new talent on the team. Ruck is an Olympic medalist and tenured swimmer for Canada.

So if Ruck is a Granny, what does that make grant house?
Fossil
Very thoughtful interview. Entering the meet I didn’t think she would win the 200 because I didn’t expect her to be at peak. Then I looked at the field and it was hardly overwhelmingly. I was very happy she swam it that way. The pathetic approach used by others of hanging back followed by a desperate late charge is somehow embraced by fans but typically ends up in lots of near misses.
What a swimmer she could have been.
What a swimmer she is
Is Taylor Ruck going to take a third redshirt year?
Oof and then she turns around and gets 19th in the 100 free. How does someone take their 200 out in 48.9 and then turn around go 48.1 in the flat 100?
Fatigue? Bad sleep? Bad race? Take your pic. Unfortunate, but regardless it’s awesome to see Ruck still racing and more importantly smiling and healthy after her past couple of years. We’ll take a 🥇 and 19th anytime from her 👏
She’s happy with the “2-peat.” Is that the same as a “repeat”?
Let’s analyze your NCAA career CraigH, oh wait, you didn’t have one.
Ok. I guess we aren’t allowed to talk about any sports unless we were the cream of the crop. I don’t know why ESPN even bothers covering March Madness.
I understand your comment, but the idea of not being allowed to critique a performance of an athlete if we’re not of the same calibre is stupid.
My point has nothing to do with being on the same caliber as Taylor. I know you and CraigH aren’t on her level. If you were, you’d post with your own name. But put yourself in Taylor’s shoes if she goes to this website and reads the comment. She knows she didn’t perform well and now some internet rando is piling on top of her poor performance. You don’t need to feel entitled to post your horrible opinion(s). You can keep them to yourself.
So I presume you are THE Rene Decartes?
Yes, I am alive.
If swimming wants to be able to grow as a sport people watch the whole community needs to stop getting mad when someone analyzes something like splits like this.
So I had/have this problem. I’m not D1 caliber yet, but my 100 free is only .3 faster than the first 100 of my 200 PB lol. Granted I took it out really hard, but I do struggle with the 100 more
for some reason. I think it’s a combination of losing that freshness, and trying too hard (spinning).
