Christina Wright, a SwimSwam contributor and US Masters Swimmer, produced this video. This is episode two in a series of three. From Christina:
I have two main passions in life: swimming and storytelling. I swam in my first race at age five and I started writing stories in a pink diary (equipped with a locket) at age six. In 2012, after many years of pursuing both passions separately, I discovered Marquette University’s Graduate Certificate in Digital Storytelling program. Digital storytelling is the art of using writing, photography, video, and audio to tell stories. Truly, this is the way that we receive our news and entertainment every day. I enrolled in the graduate program last August. Then, a month later, I dove back into swimming after a ten year hiatus–I joined the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center’s masters team in Brown Deer, Wisconsin. A lightbulb went off–I could use my newly enhanced storytelling skills to delve into the culture of masters swimming. And so a website was born: “Swimming, A Masterful Sport.”
