Muncie, Ind. – The Ball State women’s swimming & diving team celebrated senior day by winning 10 events Saturday afternoon in a dual meet versus the Bellarmine Knights.

The Cardinals (4-4) defeated the visiting Knights (3-14) 156-100 at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

Seniors Jessie Fraley and MaKayla Miller started the dominance for Ball State with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:50.15). They were joined by juniors Laura Wright and Elizabeth King.

Freshmen Kiran Stauffer and Payton Kelly followed up the great start with their first-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (10:46.95) and 500 freestyle (5:13.30), respectively.

The Cardinals would not stop rolling as junior Marcella Ribeiro and sophomore Lilia Newkirk earned first-place efforts in the 200 freestyle (1:54.97) and 100 backstroke (58.82), respectively.

Ribeiro would finish her day with a victory in the 100 freestyle (53.33).

Senior Apsara Sakbun would not be denied a win in her final home meet coming away with the victory in the 50 freestyle (23.90).

Sophomores Hannah Jones and Eliza Bader also made an appearance in the win column with their first-place efforts in the 200 backstroke (2:06.21) and 100 butterfly (59.14).

Senior Phoebe Rensink finished off her day, and her home career, with a victory in the 200 IM (2:12.74) and was followed close behind by senior Shelby Crist in 2:14.39.

The Cardinals ended the meet with the top time in the 400 freestyle relay led by freshman Haley Sakbun, Bader, Wright, and A. Sakbun in an exhibition clocking of 3:40.36.

The Ball State women’s swimming & diving program will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 29) at noon when they travel to Fishers High School for the Butler Invite.

The Cardinals (2-3) defeated the visiting Knights (4-11) 144-111 at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

In the last home meet of the season, a pair of Ball State’s seniors, Bryce Handshoe and Owen Chaye, started the day off by swimming the anchor two legs of the first-place 200 medley relay win finished in 1:31.20. They were joined by sophomore Ethan Pheifer and junior Joey Garberick.

Garberick would add to his solid season later in the meet with victories in the 100 freestyle (47.26) and the 200 IM (1:55.77).

Chaye then tied his own pool record he set last weekend with his victory in the 50 freestyle, repeating his time of 20.72.

A few events later the Cardinals had a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke with Pheifer taking home the victory (53.31), sophomore Michael Burns finishing second (53.64), and junior Sam Jennings placing third (54.85).

Senior Landyn Riester ended his home career taking first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.02), and senior Jack Wolfred would not be denied a farewell victory taking first in the 100 breaststroke (59.78).

Sophomores Max Kruglov and Michael Mitsynskyy joined in on the winning effort with their first-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle (10:00.19) and 200 butterfly (1:55.59), respectively.

Freshman Logan Ayres kept the wins coming for the Cardinals taking home a victory in the 200 backstroke with his time of 1:55.19.

The Cardinals finished the meet sending off their seniors with the fastest time in the 400 freestyle relay made up of all upcoming graduates, Wolfred, Riester, Patrick White, and Chaye (3:07.31).

The Ball State men’s swimming & diving program will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 29) at noon when they travel to Fishers High School for the Butler Invite.

MUNCIE, Ind. — The Bellarmine men’s and women’s swim teams wrapped up their regular season on Saturday with duals at Ball State University.

The Ball State women earned a 156-100 win, while the Ball State men claimed a 144-111 victory.

Between the men’s and women’s squads, Bellarmine totaled seven first-place finishes and 33 top-three finishes.
