Coach’s Corner
“Today was a great day to swim and dive in the pool that we’ll be competing for this year’s Patriot League Championships. Familiarity with the pool, boards, blocks, walls, ceiling etc. will help us settle in and compete with confidence in just over a month.
Our women really brought it today and performed well versus one of the top teams in the conference. Our divers crushed it on the boards – with Abby Gibbs qualifying for NCAA Zones on 3M, after qualifying for zones on 1M yesterday (a career first for her). The team swam well from the first relay to the last. I am very proud of their efforts and focus today and all season!
On the men’s side, we were tested by a very fast and hungry Bucknell men’s team. We were without our top two divers this weekend, but Alex Zhang and Adam Elahmadi stepped up and got some valuable experience. We got outswam on the relays today which is something we need to reflect on and get better at, relays in conferences are huge and we need to be better if we want to compete at our best.
Overall, though, the team swam well and continued to hone in on race details and had an opportunity to swim some different events as we look to find out best line up for conference. Comparing our times to yesterdays suited swims – we were as fast or faster in many events today without suits.
The team is ready for a much-needed day off and then we’ll get back to on Monday as we prepare for Loyola and then Patriot League Championships in just 30 days!” — Head Coach Brandt Nigro
Cadet’s Corner
“I am really proud of how the team came together and brought the energy today. BBFD has been our mantra throughout the season, and we came ready to win today. We started the meet with a win in the relay and kept it rolling through every event.” – Layne Peterson
“I think this weekend was a great test of mindset when it comes to racing. Racing is supposed to hurt and pushing past that is a skill I constantly look to grow. I know it is unlikely to feel “good” after so many yards, but it won’t matter how I feel when it comes down to racing at bigger meets. After all, the person racing next to you doesn’t care what you swam prior to your current race—he just wants to beat you.”– CJ Bernauer
