State Finalist Maggie Adler Remains In-State, Commits to the University of Illinois

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Maggie Adler, an Illinois state high school finalist, has announced her decision to remain in-state with her commitment to the University of Illinois. She is expected to arrive in Champaign ahead of the 2023-2024 season.

I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Illinois! Huge thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for supporting me and getting me to where I am today. I cannot wait to be a part of such an amazing program. Go Illini!

Adler is from Western Springs, Illinois, where she attends Lyons Township High School. Outside of high school, she trains and competes with the Hinsdale Swim Club. Adler primarily specializes in sprint freestyle.

At the 2022 Illinois High School State Championships, Adler competed in the individual 100 free and 200 free, as well as the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. In the 100 free, she tied for 12th in prelims, resulting in a swim-off as only the top 12 athletes qualify for finals. She came second in the swim-off with a new best time of 51.75, dropping .43 seconds.

In the 200 free, Adler achieved a personal best in prelims with a 1:51.35. She dropped 1.66 seconds from the previous weekend, ultimately finishing 5th. The Lyons Township 200 freestyle relay finished 5th overall, led by Adler’s 24.16 which was a personal best.

The University of Illinois competes in the Big-10 conference. At the 2022 championships, they finished 11th out of 12 teams.

Head coach Jeana Kemp was hired shortly after the 2022 Big-10 Championships. The 2022-2023 season is her first with the Fighting Illini, having previously coached at South Carolina, Auburn, and LSU.

Adler joins two other Illinois natives in the class of 2027, Megan Meade and Marin McAndrew, with her commitment. Kemp’s first recruiting class for the Illini also includes Martina Cibulkova, a Slovakian National Team member and FINA Short Course World Championships participant.
