That’s 5: Winn Aung Breaks Another National Age Group Record

Winn Aung of the Redding Aqua Ducks, who trains under Mike Hoppe, broke a National Age Group Record on Sunday in his 5th different race, swimming a 24.42 in the 50 yard free. That just barely snuck under the 24.46 that Michael Andrew went in 2010.

Aung now holds National Age Group Records in five different events: the 50 meter free, 100 meter free, 200 meter free, 50 yard free, and 100 yard free. The record in the 100 yard free was a 53.12 done on Saturday at this meet hosted by the Ukia Dolphins.

He also swam a 1:00.78 in the 100 yard fly, which is a new Sierra Nevada LSC Record and within a second of the National Age Group Record, and a 28.24 in the 50 yard fly, another new Sierrra Nevada LSC Record.

As Aung ages up as of 12:01 AM on Wednesday, this will be his last National Age Group Record as an 10 & under. Next up, he’ll begin chasing the 11-12 records. Here’s how far off he is in each of those:

50 meter free – 27.57-25.09, 2.4 seconds away (Michael Andrew, 2012)
100 meter free – 1:00.67-55.45, 4.2 seconds away (Preston Padden, 2010)
200 meter free – 2:11.32-2:00.88, 10.5 seconds away (Matthew Hirschberger, 2011)
50 yard free – 24.42-21.85, 2.6 seconds away (Michael Andrew, 2011)
100 yard free – 53.12-49.75, 3.4 seconds away (Michael Andrew, 2012)

Aung also graduates up with an astonishing 15 Sierra Nevada LSC Records.

Very impressive times at the Minnesota state championships.

As expected, 11-year-old Regan Smith has shined. I repeat here she’s a big star in the making. Her backstroke is amazing.
Look at the times. I don’t know the statistics but I think her times are probably the fastest in US history for an 11-year-old girl.
50 back. 30.59
100 back. 1.06.05
200 back. 2.24.27

LOOK OUT MISSY! REGAN IS COMING!

At the same meet, 12-year-old Andrew Trepanier has also very well swum.
50 free. 25.89
100 free. 55.66
50 back. 29.05
50 fly. 27.24
100 fly. 1.01.40

Same thing for 12-year-old Shane Blickman
50 breast. 32.39
200 breast. 2.35.99
200 IM. 2.19.18

He should’ve been on the relay team instead of Feigen. 😉

Poor Feigen!
even BK now thinks it is funny.

Maybe Feigen should have spent less singing ballads and more training.

Easy Steve, you know that sponsors can’t make an educated decision on these kids until they hit 13-14 years of age. Ten going on 11 is a bit early don’t you think? 🙂
