Jack Conger Will Be Taking His 1:58 200 Fly / 1:55 200 Back to the NCSA Summer Championships

The 2013 NCSA Summer Championships are almost here and several up-and-coming junior swimmers are preparing to compete at IUPUI in Indianapolis. The meet will start July 30th and continue until August 3rd. The meet is being held at the same pool as the men’s and women’s NCAA Championships and the US World Championship Trials.

The biggest name at the NCSA Summer Championships is Jack Conger. Conger was on the World University Team that competed in Kazan, Russia. At the games, he won the 200m backstroke and finished 6th in the 100m backstroke. He is entered in the 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke, and the 50m freestyle. The future Texas Longhorn was ranked first in his high school class. This past weekend, he swam very impressive 200m butterfly. You can read about it here.

Other up-and-coming names that are entered in the meet include Ashley Boyles, Maggie D’Innocenzo, Abby Jagdfeld, Jake Schultz, Kate Herrill, Kyle Aerne, Madeline Tegner, Cannon Clifton, Robert Owen, Hellen Moffitt, Connor Black, Kirsten Vose, Michael Miller, Gia Dalesandro, Courtney Clarke, Josh Beals, Abigail Speers, and Austin Flager.

The current psych sheet is not yet final. There are still obvious errors and corrections that need to be made. Several swimmers were entered with their yard times. The final entries are due by the 23rd of July and after that, all the corrections will be made.

New England Swimming is being well represented at this meet (Beals, D’Innocenzo, Owen)! I wonder where Liam Egan is going, though.

Predictions: 1:57 200 fly, 1:55.1 200 back, 53.5 100 back, 52 low 100 fly, 22.4 50 free. Not so sure about the rest.

I wonder why he’s wasting his time at a jr natl meet. there will not be much competition there for him and he would do exceptionally well at the u s open. besides ryan murphy will be at the open and it would have been great to see them battle it out (this being their 3rd taper meet in about 1 month!).

I don’t know about Potomac Valley Swimming, but in New England the LSC will reimburse you $500 for Summer Juniors. The LSC, not USA Swimming, handles the reimbursement.

At this point I’m pretty sure at this point any team could host a meet and put “junior nationals” in the name of the meet and people will think that it’s of equal quality and speed of the real USA Swimming Junior Nationals, I’m sick of all these fake juniors meets taking away swimmers from real juniors. The Nationals/Juniors level meets are the only senior meets that USA hasn’t messed up (Grand Prix Series) or said they are going to mess up (Speedo Sectional Series). Don’t try to take that away from them. LET USA SWIMMING RUN A DECENT MEET THIS YEAR! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As someone that has consistently attended this meet, it is a great meet with a team feel to it. These NCSA time standards are similar to the ones back when there were 3 junior meets.

Best thing about this organization is that it is run by coaches! All decisions are made in the best interest of the athletes. This summer meet should have started a while back, but at least it’s now off the ground and it will be a fixture for years to come.

I think the issue with senior swimming is that there is no connection between the gran prix, sectionals, senior zones meets. USA swimming did a great job destroying the GP meets. The philosophies… Read more »

Wow, I must have been asleep and missed the announcement/article that this meet was happening!…..

What a great idea by ncsa, a meet for those in between sectional times and USA Jr times and not a poorly attended or contrived senior zone meet. I swam when there were three meets COACHGB and you are right, they were all well attended and manageable in size. I hope they keep this one on the schedule for years to come.

I wanted to see him at the junior world championships in Dubai later in the summer but I believe I have to forgive that idea.

Wow! Sorry for the error. I believe I have to forget that idea. Probably the big heat here which makes its first adverse effects on me! 🙂

I’m pretty sure the age for junior worlds is by year of birth. For males, it’s 1995, Conger is 1994.
