Stanford junior Taylor Ruck and Cal senior Isabel Ivey blasted off to the lead right away, gaining an advantage over the field at the first turn. They were 23.23 and 23.51 at the 50 wall, with USC’s Laticia-Leigh Transom in third place (23.84). At the halfway point it was Ruck (48.83), Ivey (49.05) and Transom (49.60). Penn’s Lia Thomas, who had come into the meet with the nation’s top time, was seventh.
Over the next 100 yards, as Ruck and Ivey continued to lead by about a body length and duke it out for the top position, there was some movement going on behind them. Texas junior Kelly Pash moved into third place and Thomas passed Transom to stop the clock at 1:43.40, exactly at the same time as Kentucky senior Riley Gaines. Lillie Nordmann of Stanford came to the wall half a body length ahead of them with 1:42.63.
Taylor we are behind you all the way! Proud of you – we love you.
This is about Taylor Ruck and celebrating her. Amazing the lengths people will go to trying to find a way to disparage Lia Thomas.
A great young woman.
Loved the interview. So happy for you!😊💕
Easy to root for her. Can’t wait to see whats next Taylor !
Best thing she did was leave Ben Titley and HPC! Outstanding talent and down to earth! Congratulations on amazing swim
When she struggled following her initial breakout it was all Meehan and Stanford’s fault. Now that she is having success again, that was Titley’s fault even though she has been open about an eating disorder she dealt with the last couple years.
Having a hard time keeping track of who to blame for stuff at this point.
Fast Swim captured it concisely….right on the mark. There are lots of private and personal things, that dont need chat board space, This week was a great display, of how she and team, have things on track. oxyswim is making it too complex. She is getting squared away, in the right place with the right people
I am so damned happy for this young lady! When she shines she shines bright!
It’s actually amazing how genuine she comes across. There are none of the usual boilerplate comments you normally hear. Just a straightforward admission of recent problems and how she’s dealt with them. She didn’t even lay claim to being entirely over them, just said they were mostly behind her. And I liked the way she said she basically got fixated on Stanford as a ten year old, meaning, it wasn’t an entirely rational decision. (That is, after all, how most of us come to decisions, even if we justify them with rational-sounding reasons afterward.) My hat’s off to her.
