Standout sophomore Thackston McMullan helped propel the St. Xavier High School boys to a repeat title at the Southwest Ohio District meet over the weekend, while St. Ursula won the girls’ meet after taking second in 2021 to Mason.

Despite being just a 15-year-old sophomore, McMullan was the top scorer for St. Xavier, winning the 500 free (4:31.60) and putting up a blistering time en route to taking second in the 200 free.

In the 200, McMullan clocked 1:38.00 to become the 28th-fastest 15-year-old in history, taking second to Beavercreek senior Dillon Edge (1:36.97).

Edge also picked up a win in the 100 breast, clocking 54.85 with another St. Xavier underclassman, Jaeger Ellerman, shining with a third-place finish as a freshman in 57.49. Ellerman, just 14, now ranks 72nd all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group.

On the girls’ side, the top point-getter for the winning team was freshman Addie Robillard, who put up 37 points for the St. Ursula girls.

Robillard, 14, won the 200 IM (2:03.71) and put up a very quick 1:01.75 to take second in the 100 breast, with West Chester Lakota West senior Paige Stirley claiming the victory in 1:01.38.

Robillard’s time marked a PB by more than two seconds, having previously been 1:03.71 at the Winter Junior Championships – East in December, and rockets her up into 23rd all-time in the girls’ 13-14 age group.

Stirley, 18, led the girls’ meet by scoring the maximum 40 points, also winning the 100 fly in a time of 54.07.

Ohio high school swimmers now turn to the state championships, which will run Feb. 23-26 at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. You can find full meet info here.
