Update: Katinka Hosszu Sick With Food Poisoning At FFN Golden Tour – Nice

2022 FFN GOLDEN TOUR NICE (FRA)

The 2022 FFN Golden Tour kicked off today in Nice, France. This represents just one of two total stops on the tour, with the other taking place in Marseille from March 4th to March 6th.

The prelims session was on the subdued side this morning, characterized by a field-leading 23.78 by Frenchman Florent Manaudou in the men’s 50m fly and top-seeded swim of 25.43 in the women’s 50m free by teammate Charlotte Bonnet.

What was noteworthy thus far, however, was the absence of Hungarian Olympian Katinka Hosszu.

32-year-old Hosszu was entered in three events over the course of this competition, with the 200m IM on today’s agenda. However, she was a ‘DNS’, which leads us to ask if she is simply opting out of that race, is potentially delayed in getting to Nice, or bypassing the meet altogether. We have reached out to Hosszu for more details.

Update since original publishing:

Hosszu confirmed via her Instagram Story, “Unfortunately I can’t start the race in Nice due to food poisoning. Good luck to the other Hungarian swimmers.”

Hosszu suffered food poisoning at this same meet back in 2014.

Another DNS came from Russia’s Anastasia Kirpichnikova in the women’s 1500m freestyle. Kirpichnikova trains in France under coach Philippe Lucas, who previously trained Sharon van Rouwendaal.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. I wonder why it says “NICE” in the title.

Stick to croissants and baguettes! I can live off those two food groups alone in France!

The way the title reads kinda seems like Nice was a comment on her being out, not the location lol

An excuse for what? She has nothing to prove, she has won everything she can 🙂

It’s rude. And she is a professional swimmer. Even if it’s her peak era or not. I think she has a right to decide whether she wants or doesn’t want to race. We don’t know how she swam at her training camp. She has a right to withdrawn her application for the competition. It’s not a big meet. If she wants to just rest or training more, it’s up to her.
Last but not least, she made a statement and I think there is no need from her to lie about it.
If she decide not to race, it’s her decision and more and more race will come.
