Claire Jansen from Naperville, Illinois has announced her commitment to swim and study at the University of Pittsburgh beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.
“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to the University of Pittsburgh to continue my academic and athletic career! A big thank you to all my coaches, friends, and family who have supported me through this crazy journey. I’m so excited for the next 4!!Go Panthers!! #H2P”
Jansen swims for Hinsdale Aquatic Club out of Naperville, IL. This past weekend at the Circle City Classic, Jansen broke Missy Franklin’s open 100 backstroke record of 55.38 from 2009 (Franklin was 13 years old at the time competing in the open group). Jansen swam a best time of 54.92 in finals to earn the win.
She also swam to a huge lifetime best in the 200 backstroke. She swam to a time of 2:01.51 to earn the victory in the event. Her previous best time was a 2:06.32.
Jansen is currently a senior at Naperville North High School in Naperville, IL, a suburb of Chicago. There she also plays water polo and was a member of the state championships team that won in 2021. She also was named 2nd team All-State for water polo. She also is a member of the school’s National Honor Society.
Her best short course times are:
- 100 backstroke: 54.92
- 200 backstroke: 2:01.51
- 50 freestyle: 23.73
- 100 freestyle: 51.61
Her best times would place her second on the Pitt roster this season in the 100 backstroke. She also would be sixth in the 200 backstroke, 50 freestyle, and 100 freestyle. She is just off what it took to make it back in the 100 backstroke at the 2021 ACC Championships as it took a time of 54.66.
Jansen will arrive on campus this fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Holly Pringle, Emily Bucaro, Ece Tanriverdi, Olivia Yoo, Rachel Soubier, Yasemine Safargar, Kate Bailey, and Angelina Messina. This season’s team roster for the Panthers is relatively young as there are only six seniors and 11 freshmen. With only seven juniors, and at least nine commits, the team will continue to be young. She plans on studying health sciences.
Welcome to the family Claire! Hail to Pitt!
