Missouri’s meet against Louisville, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 8, has been canceled due to a high number of positive COVID-19 tests on Missouri’s team, according to a Louisville news release.
The release did not specify the number of positive tests on the Tigers’ team. The meet was going to be Missouri’s Senior Day.
Louisville did participate in a training trip over winter break, but had not competed since the Purdue Invitational in mid-November. Missouri, meanwhile, competed at the Tennessee Diving Invitational earlier this week, and the swimmers swam in a meet against Missouri State on December 4.
Boone County, in which the University of Missouri is located, is currently averaging about 125 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people. Jefferson County, where the University of Louisville is located, averages 276 cases per 100,000 people.
Louisville had COVID issues earlier this season; their meet against Notre Dame was canceled because of COVID issues, though it wasn’t specified which program, and the team was missing several NCAA qualifiers at their mid-season Purdue Invite because of COVID-19 protocols.
The Louisville men finished 5th at last year’s NCAA Championship meet, while Missouri finished 16th. On the women’s side, Louisville finished 13th and Missouri 18th at 2021 NCAAs.

Why does anyone care who called it off first? More than likely one coach called the other saying “hey we just tested the team and it’s not looking good” And the other coach probably agreed. Of course both teams want to race! I highly doubt there are any bad feelings between the respective teams and coaches as everyone knew the probability of the meet occurring was diminishing each day as cases were rising everywhere.
Hopefully things settle down soon and all teams can get a meet or two in before conference champs season starts (I sure hope so).
It’s more about people wanting to put the blame on the other program and say “our program is doing these COVID protocols right!” In reality, COVID has hit every single team in the country over winter break basically

Because 18-22 year old males athletes have gigantic egos, and even this is enough to set them off.
There’s a whole other gender that competes at the NCAA level.

I know for a fact that our coach lied about which team called off our dual meets this weekend, so it’s possible that your coach lied to you too.

I don’t think the article says that Missouri called it off. Isn’t it possible that Louisville called the meet off because of the high number of cases in the Missouri program, and not wanting their athletes to catch a case?
In fact, I think Louisville is acknowledging that they called it off by being the ones to put out a press release and social media posts while Missouri has been quiet.
Please refer to my prior comments in the fact that the meet being called off was not due to Mizzou’s protocols.
