Two members of USA Swimming were recently added to the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s disciplinary database.
Mauricio Ramirez of Chicago, Ill., and Adam Batson of Chapel Hill, N.C., were added in December, both under temporary suspension for allegations of misconduct.
USA Swimming has confirmed that Batson is currently an athlete member of the organization and Ramirez is an individual – part-time coach member.
Mauricio Ramirez
Ramirez, 32, was charged in October for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old lifeguard in the summer, one of his employees as he was working as a Chicago Park District supervisor.
Then on Dec. 1, Ramirez was arrested for sexually assaulting another teenage girl “several times starting eight years ago,” another lifeguard employee.
Ramirez was charged with one felony count each of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse in both cases, the first in 2021 and the second case stemming from assaults done in 2013 and 2014, according to Chicago Police.
In the case from this year, CBS 2 Chicago reported that Ramirez was well aware of the girl’s age, and that he sexually assaulted her numerous times between the months of July and September.
In the second case, Ramirez reportedly first assaulted the girl after a party in July 2013, and continued to sexually assault her “three to five times a week” over the next months.
After school started in the fall, the lifeguard did not see Ramirez again until the following summer, when she resumed working as a lifeguard. Between June and November of 2014, he sexually assaulted the girl three to five times per week.
Prosecutors said that the girl told her boyfriend about the assaults in 2015, but no action was taken until late October/early November 2021 of this year when a friend sent her the article detailed Ramirez’s arrest for the assault of the 16-year-old girl.
In early November, CBS 2 Chicago reported on “scathing accusations of everything from sexual harassment to bullying among Chicago lifeguards,” but Ramirez was the only one charged at that time.
Ramirez is set to return to court for a hearing in the first case brought against him in early 2022.
