Podium:

This was possibly the tightest finish I’ve seen in a World Championships final. Kliment Kolesnikov won the race handily, posting a 22.66 to grab his 2nd Gold medal of the night.

KK-47 seems to be a well spoken, intelligent man. Hope the battles between he, Casas, Murphy, Rylov, Stewart, Greenbank (has to improve a bit, but could get up there in the 200 back) etc… continue for the next few years. We’ve been truly blessed, as fans, to have such amazing backstrokers (male and female) over the last 25 years. Has there been another stroke that has been as hotly contested, for so long? Shoot, there has even been a number of “strange” winners– Clary, Lochte (ya, ya, gold medal, but let’s be serious, his b n b was the IM)… Lastly, it will be a little bit sad to see Ryosuke Irie retire, he was kind of the last “old”… Read more »

Not disputing your claim regarding Lochte, but the man is still the textile WR holder with that 1:52.9 from 2011, just nuts what he could do.

I mean Phelps made the Olympic team in the 200 back, too, he just declined to swim it. Those two were just hyper-talented. That’s the most obvious thing anyone’s ever said, I just realized.

Once English is mastered ,these young Russian athletes look to their fan base & target another language. Ice skaters learn Japanese & World Champ gymnast Melnikova is hitting up Italian. Before this they had no idea what was going on in the arena .

A heads up to all the other multi lingual athletes out there !
