In addition to 17-year-old Qianting Tang‘s Asian Record in semifinals of the women’s 100 breast in Abu Dhabi, there was a flurry of national records. Let’s start with Sweden’s Sophie Hansson, who posted the 2nd-fastest time of the night with a 1:04.17. The swim took down her own Swedish Record of 1:04.44, which she had just established on November 24, at the Swedish Champs. Here is a split comparison between Hansson’s previous record, and her swim today:

Hansson made improvement on both halves of the race, splitting 0.13 seconds faster on the opening 50, and 0.14 seconds faster on the 2nd 50.

Mona McSharry, who competes collegiately for the University of Tennessee, also clocked a new national record. McSharry came in 3rd tonight with a 1:04.22, clipping the previous Irish Record of 1:04.36, which McSharry held from the 2019 SC World Champs. Here is McSharry’s split comparison between the previous record swim, and her performance tonight:

Great Britain’s Molly Renshaw swam a 1:04.43 for 6th tonight, advancing to finals. Renshaw’s swim was also a British Record, and as was the case with Hansson and McSharry, Renshaw was the previous record holder. The previous record was held at 1:04.73, a time which Renshaw swam during last year’s ISL season.
