Canton City Schools in Ohio has hired a new head swim coach for McKinley High School and stripped former coach Mike Davidson of his duties, according to a report from The Canton Repository.
Davidson is currently the subject of an internal investigation of alleged misconduct, which began in early September after a letter in his school personnel file indicated he was to remain at home beginning Sept. 2 pending the investigation’s results. He was placed on paid leave when the investigation began.
According to the Canton Rep, details of the alleged misconduct have not been described and district officials declined to comment.
Davidson remains the district’s aquatics director, overseeing the C.T. Branin Natatorium, but he is currently banned from McKinley school property.
It’s important to note that Davidson is not the Mike Davidson that formerly coached for the University of Alabama.
In his place, Canton has hired Scott Trahey to be the McKiley had girls and boys swimming coach. Trahey is currently a physical education teacher at McKinley and previously served as athletic director, physical education teacher and swim instructor at Old Trail School in Bath, Ohio.
Davidson was first hired in October 2017, taking over for Sam Seiple, who has twice been convicted of charges involving sexual conduct with former swimmers.
Hope everything works out for him and there was no wrongdoing… great coach!
Canton coaches can’t seem to behave
I don’t know what’s going on here, but I hope it works out for Mike and he’s cleared of any wrongdoing. I’ve known him for years and he’s not only an outstanding coach, but a good man.
