POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women’s swimming & diving team earned a 189.5-108.5 triumph over Canisius in its season opener at McCann Natatorium on Friday.
The Red Foxes had a trio of double winners in individual events:
- Emma Butzler captured both the 200 free (1:56.43) and 500 free (5:14.00).
- Jessica Freund won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.07) and 200 IM (2:12.94).
- In diving, Grace Reeves won the 1-meter (227.97) and 3-meter (252.45).
Additionally, Marist had 1-2-3 finishes in three events: the 100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, and 200 IM.

After not competing in the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Friday’s meet marked the first at McCann Natatorium since Jan. 25, 2020.
“It was great being able to compete at McCann in front of a great crowd,” said first-year head coach Anthony Randall. “I was really proud of how everyone competed today and how the energy on deck matched our intensity in the water.”
The Red Foxes will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 21 at Fordham, with the meet scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men’s swimming & diving team earned a 183-106 victory over Canisius in its season opener at McCann Natatorium on Friday.
The Red Foxes had four individual double winners on the day:
- Ahmed Sallam captured both the 50 free (21.09 seconds) and 100 free (46.52 seconds).
- Sean Doran won both the 100 back (52.59 seconds) and 200 IM (1:59.95). Doran also swam the first leg of the Red Foxes’ winning 200 medley relay.
- Adam Kapusta took first place in the 200 free (1:45.40) and 200 back (1:55.75).
- In diving, Tyler Wenzel captured both boards. He scored 217.27 on his 3-meter dive and 205.12 on the 1-meter.

The Canisius men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell on the road at Marist Friday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
On the men’s side, the Golden Griffins were defeated by a 183-106 margin, while the women’s team suffered a 189.5-108.5 setback.
In women’s diving, senior Adrianna Bolender placed second in the 1-meter (202.50) and third in the 3-meter (220.50) events, while sophomore Hope Marshall tied for third in the 3-meter (186.67) dive.
The women’s team was led by a dominant performance by graduate student Sage Pollack. Pollack placed first in three of her four events on the day, leading in the 50 and 100-free events, while placing second in the 200 medley relay.
The New City, N.Y., native also finished first in the 400 freestyle relay with freshman Ashley Allaire, sophomore Jordan O’Connor and junior Grace Van Buren.
O’Connor and Alison Testone rounded out the first-place finishes for the women’s team. O’Connor won the 100 back and Testone earned the top spot in the 200 breast.
On the men’s side, senior Liam O’Connell grabbed first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:52.17, while freshmen Archie Minto and Nick Kishbaugh posted first-place finishes in the 200 fly and 500 free, respectively.
Like the women, the men’s 400 freestyle relay came away with a first-place finish. O’Connell, along with freshmen Bronson Benes and Ben Yant, and junior Alex Hiltbrand, earned the top spot in the final event of the meet.
