Gorbenko, Jefimova, and Jacoby Deliver Record-Breaking 100 Breasts In Berlin

2021 FINA WORLD CUP – BERLIN

On day 2 finals of the 2021 FINA World Cup in Berlin, the top 3 finishers in the women’s 100 breaststroke each took out a record of their own. Anastasia Gorbenko and Eneli Jefimova notched senior national records of 1:04.44 and 1:04.95, respectively, while Lydia Jacoby swam an unofficial USA junior national record of 1:05.20.

Israeli swimmer Anastasia Gorbenko was victorious in the event with her swim of 1:04.44 to take out her own national record by nearly a second. Her previous mark of 1:05.28 hailed from last year’s ISL semi-finals. Gorbenko broke the Israeli record in the 200 breaststroke earlier this year in Naples when she hit a 2:19.22.

Gorbenko was joined on the podium by Estonian junior Eneli Jefimova who posted a 1:04.95 to dip under 1:05 for the first time and improve upon her own national record. Jefimova actually broke the record twice in one day, hitting a 1:05.18 during prelims to improve upon her former mark of 1:05.62 from back in 2020.

Jefimova also cracked the 200 breaststroke Estonian record on day 1 of the meet with a swim of 2:22.20. Jefimova now holds all 3 long course breaststroke records and 2/3 of the short course national records.

While 3rd place finisher and Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist didn’t hit a senior national record for the USA, she was quicker than the unofficial 18&U US SCM record in the event of 1:06.32. Jacoby’s 1:05.20 for bronze was more than a second faster than Lilly King‘s 2014 swim of 1:06.32 which we believe to have been the fastest time by an American junior in history.

With these swims, Gorbenko, Jefimova, and Jacoby now assume the #5, #9, and #13 spots in the world rankings for 2021.
