LA Current’s Ingrid Wilm lowered the Canadian Record in the women’s 100 backstroke for the third time this season, hitting the wall in 55.61 to slice 0.07 from her previous record.
Wilm first lowered the record in Match 4 and became the first Canadian woman in history under 56-seconds in the race. Wilm lowered the record again in Match 5 taking a further quarter-second from her mark. Wilm’s swim Sunday makes her the 9th-fastest performer all-time between Ukraine’s Daryna Zevina (55.54) and Australia’s Kaylee McKeown (55.68).
Kylie Masse held the Canadian Record in the event before Wilm, having set it at 56.02, set in the prelims at the 2016 FINA World Championships in Windsor. Though Masse has yet to catch up with Wilm she did narrow the gap significantly with a 55.83 posted on Friday in Match 7.
In addition to breaking her own national record, Wilm earned LA 15 points with her swim as she stole the points from three other competitors.

Awesome congrats to her! As she was not on the Olympic team this summer her options to race and get $$ support would have been much more limited pre-ISL. This is of course an Ingrid success story first and foremost, but also an ISL success story in terms of new ‘stars’ that may have been off the long course or Olympic radar.
Well, she hasn’t been paid yet. Hopefully ISL can meet their obligations
Yeah, it’s great to see. I hope she can translate this to great LCM swimming at some point, but even if she can’t, ISL being SCM is an amazing opportunity for many of these swimmers that aren’t beasts in the LC pool to have longer careers.
Fun fact she is actually better at LC. She just lives in a part of canada that made it impossible to make the Olympic team due to training restrictions.
