Mariam Zayour Set to Join The College of Wooster This Fall

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

A native of North Royalton, Ohio, Mariam Zayour will be joining The College of Wooster this fall to swim for the Scots. Zayour swam for Ridgewood Branch YMCA as well as North Royalton High School.

“I am so excited to announce my commitment to The College of Wooster to continue my academic and swimming careers! I would like to thank my coaches, teachers, and my family for all their support, Go Scots!!”
A versatile swimmer, Zayour competed in the finals of three different events at the 2020 Lake Erie Senior Championships last March. At that meet, which was swum as short course prelims and long course finals, her top finish came in the 200 IM, where she took 15th in 2:39.99. This spring she had a pair of top-16 finishes at the Ohio Northeast Districts Championship Meet, taking 11th in the 500 free (5:24.04) and 9th in the 200 IM (2:14.40).

Top SCY Times

  • 100 back – 1:02.68
  • 200 back – 2:16.11
  • 200 free – 1:58.58
  • 500 free – 5:15.52
  • 200 IM – 2:14.40
  • 400 IM – 4:42.73
The College of Wooster competes in the North Coast Conference alongside schools such as Kenyon and Denison. At the last conference championships, in 2o2o, the Fighting Scots finished in fifth.
Zayour will be a big pickup for the team this season, as her lifetime bests would have been near the top of the team in multiple events during the 2020-21 season. Last year she would have been the team’s top 400 IM swimmer, as well as their second-best in the 200 IM. During the 2019-2020 season, the last year that Wooster competed in a full season, she would have held the program’s second-best times in both races.
The Fighting Scots are led by longtime head coach Rob Harrington, who has been at the helm of the team for nearly 20 years. During his time with the team, the women have finished as high as 7th at the NCAA Championship meet (2004) and more recently took 27th in 2013.
