The nation of Hong Kong experienced its most successful Olympic Games ever this past summer in Tokyo, Japan, with its overall medal tally of 6 beating out all other years combined.
In the Tokyo pool, it was star Siobhan Haughey who got it done more than once, reaping silver in both the 100m and 200m freestyle events. She became the first-ever Hong Kong Olympic swimming medalist in the process.
Other medals for Hong Kong this summer came in the men’s foil individual, women’s table tennis, women’s kata, and women’s track cycling sprint.
To help celebrate the nation’s achievement, the Hong Kong Post Office will be issuing a limited edition stamp sheetlet with the theme of “Congratulations on the Outstanding Achievements of the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.”
The stamps are available for preorder and are due to be released on October 28th of this year. There will be 5 unique stamps showcasing the aforementioned medal-earning events, while the medalists’ podium images are also included in the pamphlet.
Haughey is back in the pool competing as a member of the International Swimming League’s (ISL) Energy Standard. She took MVP honors, the 2nd such of her career, after multiple wins during match 3 of this season.
Imagine the Chinese relays if they added her. How much longer will Hong Kong swim as a separate nation instead of as part of China?
