Miranda Heckman, a silver medalist at the 2021 Big 12 conference championships, is looking to leave the Texas Longhorns in search of something new.
Heckman, a current junior, joined the Longhorns in fall 2019, and at the most recent conference championship contributed 29 points to help the women take home the title. She finished second in the 100 and 200 freestyle at that meet, and as a freshman she placed third and fourth in the events, respectively. Her freestyle range is considerable, though, and she’s competed in races from the 100 to the 1650, making her a versatile freestyle addition to any team.
“One of my biggest fears growing up was change,” Heckman told SwimSwam. “Over recent years I’ve found that change is a necessity to continue growing in any aspect of life. With this transfer I plan on progressing my swimming career (as well as other facets) through the team, coaching staff, and overall program I commit myself to. I am elated to begin this journey!”
She also swims the 200 backstroke, where her top time of 1:58.06 made her a formidable opponent in the Big 12. Against SMU in 2021, Heckman placed first in both the 200 freestyle and backstroke. Outside of the college season, Heckman swam at the TXLA Speedo Southern Sectionals, where she placed second in the 100 meter freestyle and seventh in the 200 meter freestyle as a part of Longhorn Aquatics.
As part of the 2019-20 roster, Heckman swam the second-fastest 500 and 1000 freestyle on the team, third-fastest 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke, fifth-fastest 1650 freestyle, sixth-fastest 100 freestyle, and seventh-fastest 100 backstroke.
This past year, she’s continued to improve her sprinting. With 2020-21 statistics, Heckman performed the third-fastest 1000 freestyle, 50 and 200 backstroke; fourth-fastest 100 and 200 freestyle; sixth-fastest 500 freestyle; and ninth-fastest 50 freestyle.
Prior to her arrival in Austin, Heckman was a three-time California state champion and one of the top distance swimmers of the class of 2019. A swimmer then for the Pleasanton Seahawks, she competed at the 2017 FINA Junior World Championships, placed in the final eight at the 2017 Summer Juniors, and 200 and 500 freestyle defending state champion.
The Longhorns are expected to compete October 8 in the Dust Off Your Boots Invitational.

I would assume no swim improvement … like many of them.
Anybody knows where she is going?
I am sure there are several Division 3 schools that would love to have a new addition to their rosters.
