Cal’s 2021 men’s water polo schedule features every team that competed in the last NCAA Championships and eight of the teams in the final CWPA Top-10 from last season.
In addition to the Bears’ usual gauntlet of MPSF opponents – UCLA, USC and Stanford – Cal also plays top-10 opponents Pepperdine, Cal Baptist, Navy, San Jose State and Bucknell.
The Bears open the season Sept. 4-5 at the Navy Open, where they will take on Navy, Bucknell, Princeton and George Washington. Cal’s first home game will come Sept. 12 against San Jose State at Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Cal will play six home games during the season, and hosts the MPSF Invitational Sept. 24-26 at both Spieker and Legends Aquatics Complex.
The 2021 MPSF Championships will be held at Stanford on Nov. 19-21. The NCAA Championships are at UCLA on Dec. 2-5.
The Bears advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Championships last season and finished ranked No. 3 in the country. They spent four weeks at No. 1 and featured the MPSF Player of the Year in Nikolaos Papanikolaou and MPSF Coach of the Year in Kirk Everist. Cal returns almost every player from last season’s roster, including Papanikolaou.
