Noe Ponti Breaks Swiss Record, Jumps To 14th All-Time With 50.76 100 Fly

Noe Ponti joined the exclusive sub-51 club in the men’s 100 butterfly on Friday morning in Tokyo, blasting a time of 50.76 in the Olympic semi-finals to knock a significant chunk off his Swiss National Record.

Ponti, 20, produced the time in the second semi of the event, swimming alongside world record holder Caeleb Dressel, qualifying third into Saturday’s final.

The NC State commit held the previous record at 51.15, set in December, when he actually lowered the mark twice in just a matter of hours. Ponti first went 51.24, which absolutely demolished the previous Swiss mark of 52.28, set by medley specialist Jeremy Desplanches in 2019.

Ponti also becomes the 14th-fastest swimmer of all-time with his swim, and the sixth-fastest from Europe.

Dressel led the semis in an Olympic Record time of 49.71, the third-fastest performance of all-time, and reigning European champion Kristof Milak sits second in 50.31.
