don’t think will be on her A game for the 400 free…even the 200 might be a stretch, but definitely not the 400. she was like 5th or 6th at ncaa’s and that doesn’t even include people like ledecky, Sutton, etc.

she did get 6th in the 5 butt I think the 4 free is a different event and she is the current American record holder in the event. No one else can say that n that was just last yr

Allison Schmitt is the big question on the women’s side. She was absolutely amazing last year and I think her 200 free in London was one the most dominant races in history. But she hasn’t shown the same level of shape since then. Her short course world championships were contrasted with a gold medal in the 200 free and an elimination in the 400 free prelims. Same thing at the NCAA championships with a win in the 200 free and a disappointing 500 free. Will she find again her best level in the longest distance in long course next summer? It’s a question but it’s hard to drop her from the picks. If she isn’t good in the 400 free… Read more »

I’m really excited to watch the distance free this year! With Katie Ledecky, Gillian Ryan, Chloe Sutton, Becca Mann. and much more! I also think Ledecky has a very big chance at making it in the 200free! A 1:56 is a really good start for her at Mesa. I would also really enjoy seeing a lot of these younger swimmers! Especially McLaughlin! I think she really deserves it. At Worlds I also hope the young 12-year old Japanese girl is there in the 200breast! I think it would be so exciting to see Szekely at nationals! I also was hoping 13-yr old Isabella Rongione, if she can do what she did last year at Juniors and drop a ton of… Read more »

As far as the girls go Allie is a young talented girl but their are so many other I feel can take the spot, Breeja, Laura, Annie Zhu, Micha Lawerence. I also dont see becca mann making it based on her times maybe in the 1500. I feel like I am taking down all the young guns, but I am doing my best to make my predictions.I think the 2 free spot is the only lock . 1 back I would also consider Olivia smolgia she swam so well at short course worlds, and gave her experience in that arena. Side not I hope Rebecca Soni is back from her injury next year, after doing a crazy 2:19, she was… Read more »

I think leaving Hersey out was probably a factor of her having not raced in long course since the Olympics (she did SC Worlds and Winter Nats, that’s it.)

Very hard to make predictions so early because we still don’t know exactly who swims this year and at which level some swimmers are after London, but it’s fun. I wanted a few outsiders. And I want new faces in American swimming! Allie Szekely because I follow her for 2 or 3 years now and she was in 2.26 last year, so why not 2.24 or better this year. At her young age everything is possible. I admit it’s a bet. Same thing with Katie McLaughlin. I like her swimming style. I think she’s a star in the making. Perhaps still too early this season but I like her. About Becca Mann I think she has the potential to be… Read more »

Jones is on the psych sheets for Charlotte, so I’d expect him to be back by the time that worlds comes around.

Thank you for the news. But even if Cullen Jones is at his best in June, I go for Anthony Ervin in the 50 free for the second spot. And in the 100 free I give to Jimmy Feigen a last chance to really break through this summer, in my mind to swim under 48. It’s time for him!!!!

Predictions are good, however I know that ryan murphy is good but taking 1 and 2 back top two spots i find unlikely. I like the tim phillips pick in the 50 fly he is small, but has alot of power. I also disagree with chase kalisz in the 2 im. He would have to improve in that event, basing of his best time and what he did at short course nationals. I know short course by no means in the same, but I do feel like correlations can be made. For instance, a sprinters are sprinters, short course or long course. Other than that I would pick mostly the same. The 1500 I feel will be a great race. Gemel… Read more »

I want new faces so I pick Ryan Murphy. If Ryan Lochte doesn’t like the 200 back anymore, Ryan Murphy will be the first to beat him. It’s a big bet. And about Chase Kalisz, I think the race for the second spot in the 200 IM behind Ryan Lochte is wide open.

Why no semi-finals at these championships like at the olympic trials and like in most of the other countries?

One reason may be that this meet is also the “Summer National Championship” meet and the US doesn’t have semi-finals for those meets. Technically though I agree with you it would be better to run it with semi-finals….especially for up and coming swimmers who may not make the team this go round but would benefit from the experience.

Still disappointed about the timed finals distance events. You should have to swim it twice.

Great promo video however. Makes me excited for the meet.
