BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont swimming & diving program handed out its year-end 2020-21 season awards in a virtual banquet last weekend.
JOE FISCHER AWARD – Vivian Nguyen
Honoring a member of the UVM Swimming and Diving Team who has displayed dedication, sacrifice and humility – all qualities Coach Fischer valued.
LES LEGGETT AWARD – Madeleine Kovacs
Honoring a member of the UVM Women’s Swimming and Diving Team who has displayed leadership, loyalty, humility and sportsmanship – all qualities Coach Leggett valued.
MOST IMPROVED DIVER AWARD – Taylor Nguyen
Honoring a member of the UVM Women’s Diving Team that has showed the most progress throughout the season.
MOST IMPROVED SWIMMER AWARD – Isabelle Magbie
Honoring a member of the UVM Women’s Swimming Team that has showed the most progress throughout the season.
COACH’S AWARD – Katie Rivers
Honoring a member of the UVM Women’s Team who has made a significant impact to the team successes.
ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD MVP – Kira Parker
Honoring a member of the UVM Women’s Swimming and Diving Team who exhibits the following qualities: exceptional athletic ability, coachability, sportsmanship, teamwork and work ethic.
The Catamounts finished third at this year’s America East Championship for the ninth straight year. The Catamounts finished within eight points of second place UMBC, it is the closest Vermont has ever come to second at the conference meet.
Five Catamounts earned All-Conference honors at the conference championship – Cailin Campbell (200 IM), Emily Murphy (1m Diving), Kira Parker (50 Free, 100 Back, 100 Free), Mina Poppas (500 Free, 200 Free) and Katie Rivers (200 IM, 400 IM, 200 Fly). Rivers became the first Catamount in program history to win the 400 IM.
The swimming & diving seniors will be honored again during the 17th annual Rally Awards presented by Acadia Insurance, held virtually this year from May 26-28.
