For the second time this season, Siena Water Polo’s Anna Mossakowski was honored by the league for her weekly performance. The sophomore goalkeeper was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, rounding out the league’s weekly awards for the 2021 regular season.
“Anna’s performance against Iona and overall week was one of the most complete performances we’ve seen from any goalie this year,” head coach Alex Williams said. “Her second Defensive Player of the Week honor is well-deserved.”
The Long Grove, Illinois native had a phenomenal week in-between the pipes for the Saints to round out the regular season, recording 44 saves and an 11.43 goals-against-average over four games, including a pair of double-digit save affairs against ranked opponents. Mossakowski posted 15 saves against #22 Marist before recording a career-high 19-save performance in the Saints’ 13-5 win over #25 Iona. Aside from guiding the Green and Gold to their first-ever victory over a ranked opponent, the sophomore held a .524 saves percentage and a pair of assists.
Along with taking home Defensive Player of the Week honors back on April 15, Mossakowski becomes the first Siena goalkeeper to garner multiple weekly awards since Kennedy Joseph did so in 2017 & 2019, and the first to do so in the same season since 2005.
