Marcus Gentry of Superior Stingrays Swimming will suit up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish starting in fall 2022. Gentry is finishing up his junior year at Crater High School in Central Point, Oregon.
I am extremely proud and ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame. Their program surpasses all I’ve dreamt of in college swimming. I’d like to thank my mom and family for all the sacrifices they’ve made to bring my dreams to fruition. To Coach Siouxha, thank you for the many years of loyalty and awareness of knowing exactly what I need to become a better person and swimmer. Go Irish! 🍀

Gentry was the 2020 Oregon HS 5A State Champion in the 200 free (1:43.07), while he won the 500 free and 100 back in 2019 as a freshman. Pre-pandemic, he also swam at the 2019 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West, making the 200 back B-final after a then-PR 1:47.12 in prelims.
At the 2020 U.S. Open in November, Gentry clocked long course bests in the 100m back (57.28) and 200m back (2:04.29), and he’s gone lifetime bests in all of his top events in yards at various meets in March 2021.
Notre Dame’s class of 2026 also includes Tommy Janton, Dillon Edge, Jack Anderson, Michael Flynn, Ryan Malicki, and Tate Bacon.
