Wisconsin has added Turkish standout Hazal Ozkan for their class of 2026. Ozkan goes to school at Mount Kelly in the United Kingdom.
I’m honored and extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at University of Wisconsin-Madison. I’d like to thank Coach Yuri Suguiyama, Coach Kristy Brager and Jennah Haney for their guidance and patience and my coaches, teachers, family and friends who supported and encouraged me throughout this process! Ozkan recently won the 100 and 200 breast in SCM at the Turkish SCM National Team Selection Meet last week, and she won the 50 and 100 breast at the LCM National Team Selection Meet in December. She’s competed internationally for Turkey, making the 50 breast semifinals at the 2018 European Junior Championships and competing again at the 2019 meet.
Based on her converted times, Ozkan should be an immediate boost for the Badger breaststroke group, with her bests coming in at #2 in the 100 and #3 in the 200 on Wisconsin’s top times list this past season. Her converted bests would’ve been fast enough to make B-finals at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.
Ozkan is the second Turkish swimmer to commit to Wisconsin in the last year, joining Yigit Aslan, who is an incoming freshman for the men’s team.
Ozkan will suit up with #16 Blair Stoneburg, Anna TeDuits and Abby Wanezek for Wisconsin in fall 2022.
