UIC’s Davis, Oakland’s LaGrand Named Horizon League Swimmers of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland’s Susan LaGrand competed in three events at the NCAA Women’s Swimming Championships to earn Honorable Mention All-American and Nike #HLSD Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors. UIC had three athletes pick up Nike #HLSD Swimmers and Divers of the Week honors on Wednesday after competing in a dual against Milwaukee.

Liam Davis | UIC | Freshman | Naperville, Ill.
Davis had two individual wins in UIC’s victory over Milwaukee.  He won the 1000 free for the first time this season, and he took the 200 fly in an impressive performance after losing his goggles in the first 25.  Davis has top-8 times within the conference in both events.  In three meets during this shortened season, he has two wins and a second place finish in the 200 fly.

Susan LaGrand | Oakland | Junior | Grand Rapids, Mich.
LaGrand represented the Golden Grizzlies on the national stage at the NCAA Women’s Swimming Championships, competing in three events March 17-20, en route to earning Honorable Mention All-American honors. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native swam in the 200 IM, 100 back and 200 back. On Thursday, LaGrand made her NCAA Championships debut in the 200 IM, finishing first in her heat with a time of 1:58.63. During Friday’s 100 back competition, LaGrand again raced to a first place finish in her heat, touching the wall in a personal best time of 53.65. The junior saved her best for last, swimming to a school record in the 200 back in 1:53.48, second-best time in her heat. LaGrand’s time was good for 15th overall in the preliminary rounds moving her to the consolation finals Saturday evening. LaGrand finished 16th overall in the finals round with a time of 1:54.13.

2021 Nike® #HLSD Men’s Diver of the Week
Felix LaFortune | UIC | Senior | Gatineau, Canada
LaFortune won both diving events to complete an undefeated regular season across both boards.  He set a season high with a score of 329.85 on the 1-meter board, and was within 1.05 points of his season best in 3-meter diving, where he scored 362.25.  He scored 7.0 or higher from every judge on every 1-meter dive and earned two 8.0s.

2021 Nike® #HLSD Women’s Diver of the Week
Cydney Liebenberg | UIC | Senior | Pretoria, South Africa
Liebenberg won both diving events against Milwaukee, setting a season high of 298.50 on the 1-meter board.  She scored 317.78 on the 3-meter board to cap a regular season in which she won both events in every dual meet.
