Howell, Lechuga Gonzalez Named Mountain West Swimmer & Divers of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV’s Ruby Howell has been named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, while San Diego State’s Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez has been selected as the MW Diver of the Week for competition from December 10 to January 16. It is the first weekly honor for Howell and sixth for Lechuga Gonzalez.

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
RUBY HOWELL, UNLV

Freshman, Boise, Idaho

  • Won three individual events against Arizona, taking first in the 200 IM (2:02.96), 400 IM (4:21.30) and 200 breast (2:15.43) and placed third in the 100 breast (1:03.95).
  • Moved atop the Mountain West best times list in both the 200 IM and 400 IM.
  • Howell’s 200 breast time at the UNLV Invite moved her into third this season’s Conference rankings.
  • Finished first in the 200 breast (2:20.90) and third in the 100 breast (1:05.78) in the season opener to help lead the UNLV women to a 141-100 win over Cal Baptist.

DIVER OF THE WEEK
XIMENA LECHUGA GONZALEZ, SAN DIEGO STATE

Junior, Tijuana, Mexico

  • Finished first in the 1 and 3-meter boards against San Diego, with scores of 300.30 in the 1-meter and 281.48 in the 3-meter.
  • Won the 3-meter board against Cal Poly with a score of 276.60.
