Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Backstroke specialist Macy Mullis has announced her decision to swim for Florida Gold Coast University beginning in the fall of 2021. She is a year-round swimmer at Athens Bulldog Swim Club and she is a senior at Madison County High School, where she is the only member of their swim and dive team.
So blessed to say I have verbally committed to swim and study at Florida Gulf Coast University. The campus, coaches and team members made it hard to resist. I can’t wait to be an Eagle! So many thanks to Coach Rollins, my family, and all my amazing club coaches and a special shoutout to my high school coach. #WINGSUP
I am only able to represent my high school because Coach Anne Poss (currently an Asst. Principal) saw my love of swimming and knew first-hand what it was like to be an athlete without a high school team. Her father as the principal of a local high school became the gymnastics coach so that a student athlete could participate in high school gymnastic meets. I love being a Red Raider in the pool and am super excited to continue representing my next school FGCU as an Eagle in the pool.
In February of 2020, Mullis won two bronze medals at the 2020 Georgia HS 1-5A State Championships. She swam the 50 free and the 100 back, finishing 8th and 5th in prelims, respectively. She took 0.31 seconds off of her prelims time in the 100 back (55.99), jumping from 5th to third. She touched behind Kyla Maloney of Chamblee Charter and Riley Hendrix of Saint Pius X. Similarly, she jumped from 8th to 3rd in the 50 free. Her time of 24.25 placed her behind Buford’s Caroline Irwin and Mcintosh’s Meredith Ashburn.
As a sophomore, Mullis finished 3rd in the 100 back and 4th in the 50 free. In 2018, the freshman earned a silver medal in the 100 back and a bronze medal in the 50 free.
Mullis is a 3-time Scholastic All-American and she is a four-year member of her high school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes leadership group.
In December of 2019, she competed at the Winter Junior National – East championships. She swam the 100 back, touching 21st in prelims to earn spot in the C-final. Her prelims time of 54.91 was a new personal best time. In finals, Mullis added 0.35 seconds, finishing 23rd.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 back – 25.30
- 100 back – 54.91
- 200 back – 2:03.24
- 50 free – 23.98
- 100 free – 53.25
FGCU was the 2020 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships runner-up behind Liberty University. The Eagles had standout performances from swimmers Petra Halmai, Wiktoria Czarnnecka, and Julia Rodriguez who each won individual gold medal medals. Mullis will contribute to the team’s success when she joins the team in the fall of 2021. Her 100 back would have earned her a spot in the A-final at the 2020 conference meet, while her 200 back and 50 free times would have placed her in the B-final.
Mullis’ 100 back time would have made her the team’s fastest competitor during the 2019-2020 season.
