Filipovic Picks up Summer Juniors Cut in St. Charles Intraquad

St. Charles Swim Team Time Trial

  • Saturday, August 8th – Sunday, August 9th
  • Norris Rec Center Natatorium, St. Charles, Illinois
  • Long Course Meters (LCM) format
  • Results on MeetMobile “Covid-19 Summer 2020 Long Course Time Trial”

In the team’s first competition since the beginning of quarantine, St. Charles Swim Team (SCST) hosted a 2-day, LCM format intrasquad meet. The team was recently in the news as one of their swimmers, Mary Kate Phillips, saved the life of her young neighbor.

The two day intrasquad was highlighted by 16-year old Alec Filipovic, who swam below the LCM standard for the USA Swimming Juniors meet.

Swimming in the 50 free early in the meet, he posted a 23.91. That took him under the standard for the most recent Junior National Championships, in 2019, though 2021 standards have not yet been released. Later in the meet, he took another stab at the race, swimming a 23.95.

Filipovic also swam a best time in the 100 free (52.60), and non-best times in the 100 fly (56.70) and 100 back (1:00.92).

While Filipovic holds multiple Summer Juniors cuts in SCY, this is the first standard for the meet that he has achieved in the long course pool. He was also ranked by SwimSwam as the 6th best recruit on our Way Too Early Recruit Ranks: Boys High School Class of 2022. His 100 free is currently ranked as the fastest in the country in the class of 2022.

Joining Filipovic in competing in the meet was IHSA runner-up and Mizzou commit Calvin Windle. Windle was just off his personal best in the 100 back (1:00.89) and 200 free (1:59.64). Last summer he was a finalist in both races at the Champions Series-Minneapolis.

Other Notable Swims

  • In addition to his 50 free, Filipovic also added a best time in the 100 free (52.60)
  • 16-year old Molly Yetter touched in 27.88 in the 50 free to take first on the women’s side.
  • Ricky Williams won the 200 IM in a time of 2:19.85.
