Futures Finalist Mia Snow Sends Verbal to Illinois State Redbirds (2021)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Illinois State University has picked up a verbal commitment from Mia Snow of Omaha, NE. The high school junior will join the Redbirds beginning in the 2021-2022 season.

“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Illinois State University! I chose ISU because the coaches and team made it feel like home. ISU is a great fit for me both athletically and academically. I’m looking forward to being a part of the program. I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates for helping me get here. Can’t wait to be a redbird!”

In the fall, Snow will begin her senior year at Omaha Westside High School. In February of 2019, she qualified for the Nebraska High School State Championships in the 100 free and 3 relays. Snow’s first event was the 200 medley relay, where she anchored with a 50 free split of 24.52. Logan Kuehne swam back, Alison DeSordi swam breast, and Shay Snow swam fly. The women took 1.57 seconds off of their entry time and placed 10th in finals.

Snow went into the 100 free seeded third with a time of 53.45. She moved up to 4th after prelims, but jumped back down to 3rd in finals. Snow was behind Morgan Baker of Hastings High School at the 50 mark, but powered home to out-touch her for the bronze medal and a new personal best time.

Westside went from a 10th place seed in the 200 free relay to a 4th place finish in finals. Kuehne, DeSordi, Snow, and Laina Bayles dropped 1.63 seconds from their entry time to move up 6 spots. In the final event of the meet, the Westside women finished 6th in 400 free relay. Snow led off with a time of 54.86, followed by Makenzie Wilkins, Elizabeth Harding, and Bayles.

Last summer, Snow competed at the 2019 Futures Championships in Des Moines. She qualified for the 50 and 100 free, as well as the 100 fly. She placed 41st in the 50 free (27.68), 33rd in the 100 free (59.88), and 21st in the 100 fly (1:04.48). Her prelims butterfly swim earned her a spot in the C-final. In finals, she went out in a 30.12 and came home in 34.48 for a time of 1:04.60. Snow earned personal best times in all three of her events at the long course meet.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 fly – 56.22
  • 200 back – 2:08.06
  • 200 IM – 2:10.70
  • 100 free – 51.81
  • 100 back – 57.56
  • 200 free – 1:52.15

Snow will join the Illinois State women’s team in the fall of 2021. When she arrives on campus, she will be the team’s top 100 butterflier. Snow would have made it back to finals at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in 5 of her top events. She would have earned a spot in the A-final in the 100 and 200 free, the B-final in the 100 fly, and the C-final in the 100 and 200 back.

Snow will be a member of Illinois State’s class of 2025, alongside Ella Glaspie, Emma Feltzer, and Karinda Meeuwsen.
