Texas Men Add Two National Team Divers: Gosselin-Paradis (CAN) & Duperre (USA)

The Texas Longhorns will add two standout divers to their incoming class for next NCAA season: Canadian national teamer Laurent Gosselin-Paradis and 2018 high school national diving champion Noah Duperre.

Gosselin-Paradis is based out of Quebec, and trains for the Club Aquatique de Montreal, or CAMO. He switched over to diving from gymnastics, where he competed in the Canada Games in 2015. As a diver, Gosselin-Paradis jumped onto the international stage in 2018 with a synchro Grand Prix win. In 2019, he won two bronze medals representing Canada at the World University Games – he won individual bronze on the 10-meter platform and bronze as part of a synchronized 10-meter platform team with Ethan Pitman.

He will join Texas in January of 2021, according to the school.

Duperre is a U.S. national teamer from New Albany, Ohio. He competes for the Ohio State Diving Club and New Albany High School. In 2018, Duperre was named NISCA’s All-American boys diving champion. He spent much of the later part of 2018 dealing with a torn ligament in his foot.

But in 2019, he was the U.S. Winter National runner-up (in the senior division) on 1-meter, and finished 12th on 3-meter. That second-place finish was behind 2019 NCAA qualifier Conor Casey (Stanford) and ahead of 2019 NCAA 1-meter scorers Joshua Davidson (FSU) and Nathaniel Hernandez (Duke). While it can be difficult to project the impact of freshman divers compared to swimmers (where we have the benefit of times to compare), Duperre’s Winter Nationals results suggest he should be a contender to score at NCAAs as a freshman.

A perennial diving powerhouse, Texas will graduate three key divers this spring. Grayson Campbell was a five-time All-American who placed inside the top 8 on both 1-meter and 3-meter at NCAAs as a sophomore and junior before the NCAA meet was canceled his senior season. Jacob Cornish qualified for NCAAs in all four of his seasons and scored twice as a sophomore and once as a junior. Reed Merritt was an NCAA qualifier as a junior.

They should return 2019 NCAA platform champion Jordan Windle this year – he’ll be a senior. And the Longhorns had two freshman earn NCAA invites this year: Andrew Harness and Andrew Gawin-Parigini. The addition of the two new freshmen plus Pennsylvania state champ Brendan McCourt should give Texas six solid divers heading into next season.

Gosselin-Paradis and Duperre join a loaded freshman class for Texas that includes #1 overall swim recruit Carson Foster, #10 Coby Carrozza, #12 Ethan Heasley, #16 David Johnston, Zac van Zandt, Matthew Tannenberger, Armando Vegas, Ben Charles, Victor Tremblay, and McCourt.
