Louisville, Kentucky’s Krista Wheeler has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for 2021-22. She wrote on social media:

“I am so blessed to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Alabama!! I would like to thank my family, friends, and God for helping and supporting me through this very important decision! Roll tide!!❤️🐘”

Wheeler is a junior at Louisville Collegiate School where she is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. At the recent Kentucky High School State Swimming and Diving Championships, she came in 2nd in the 100 back (53.47) and 4th in the 50 free (23.46), swam breast on the medley relay (29.75), and led off the 400 free relay (52.75). In club swimming, where she represents Cardinal Aquatics, most of her best SCY times come from last spring. At the 2019 Kentucky Swimming Senior Short Course Championships, she finaled in the 50 free (3rd), 500 free (4th), 100 back (2nd), 200 back (3rd), and 100 breast (5th) and clocked PBs in the 500 free, 200 back, and 100 breast. Two weeks earlier she went best times in the 200 free and 200 IM at Southern Premier. Wheeler competed at Winter Juniors East in the 50 free and 100/200 back.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 back – 53.27
  • 200 back – 1:57.95
  • 50 free – 23.23
  • 100 free – 50.54

  • 100 breast – 1:04.37

Under first-year coach Coley Stickles, Alabama women jumped to 7th place at the 2020 SEC Championships from 11th a year ago. Wheeler’s best 100 back time would have scored for the Crimson Tide in the C final at conference. It took 22.59/49.34/1:47.03 to get a second swim in the freestyle events and 1:56.18 in the 200 back, 1:01.82 in the 100 breast, and 53.77 in the 100 fly to score at SECs.

Wheeler will join the class of 2025 with Anna Ogren, Kasia Norman, Kailyn Winter, and Sophia Garrison.
