Dominik Kozma Reported By Hungarian Police For Missing Quarantine Sticker

After testing positive for COVID-19 in late March, Hungarian swimmer Dominik Kozma has now had a violation filed against him by local police after he failed to label his home as a quarantine zone after some miscommunication.

Kozma, a three-time Olympian, was one of nine National Team members and staff to initially receive a positive test in late March from the Hungarian Swimming Association (the number eventually grew to 15). The athletes were tested as part of a Hungarian protocol that required swimmers to test negative twice before entering any of the five National training facilities that were available at the time.

Subjected to the mandatory two-week isolation period, Kozma was notified that he would receive a “red tag” to place on his door that would allow the authorities to check on his presence at home and ensure he was following all guidelines.

Initially, he was told he would receive an email with a printable sticker. After replying that he didn’t have a printer, the 29-year-old was informed it would be mailed to him.

“I suggested that I might not be lucky enough to walk from my upstairs apartment to the mailbox in the current situation, but there was no answer to my suggestion,” Kozma told Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport Online (translated). “Then on Tuesday morning, a policeman knocked on the door to check if we were at home with my wife, Sophie.”

Caught without the red sticker on his door, he informed the police about his situation. They even went to check his mailbox to see if the tag was there, but it wasn’t. So the officer was forced to file a report on Kozma.

Per Nemzeti Sport, later that day, two policemen came to his door to give him a sticker.

Another one of the Hungarian swimmers who tested positive, Boglarka Kapasreported a negative test on Thursday. Kozma has not given an update on his status.

Kozma, who’s represented his home country at each of the last three Olympics dating back to 2008, led the Hungarian men to a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle relay at the 2017 World Championships on home soil in Budapest. He’s also a five-time European Championship bronze medalist, and has made back-to-back individual finals at the World Championships in the 200 free.
