Bucknell’s Ally Furano Leads Week 3 Scorers with Record 8 Goals vs. Marist

Bucknell’s Ally Furano had a big weekend, turning in the top scoring performance of Week 3 of the women’s collegiate water polo season, while leading the Bison to a 4-0 mark to open the season at the Bruno Classic in Providence, Rhode Island.

Furano dropped a school game-record eight goals in a 16-12 win over Marist on Saturday and followed that by putting in six in a 16-10 win over Siena on Sunday. Her eight goal tally surpassed the previous record of seven, owned by five individuals including her younger sister Paige (last vs. Harvard in 2019). Furano’s weekend also included four scores in a 13-8 win over Austin College and a hat trick in a 7-5 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The weekend haul moved Furano into Bucknell’s career top 10 in goals scored (259).

Austin College’s Lexi Wong and UC Davis’ Noelle Wijnbelt logged seven goal efforts to follow Furano. Wong turned in seven goal in the Roos’ 16-13 loss to Siena on Saturday, while Wijnbelt racked up seven in a  13-11 loss to #7 Cal on Sunday.

Seven players added six-score performances. Week 3 also included 11 five-score efforts, three by George Washington’s Alana Ponce, and 48 four-goal outings. Eighty-one hat tricks also highlighted the weekend’s box scores.
