Seton Hall Picks Up Pair Of Big Wins In Sweep of Fairfield

Fairfield, Conn. –  The Pirates started 2020 off on the right foot, picking up a 175-68 victory on the road at Fairfield on Sunday. As a whole, the Pirates took first in all but one of the 13 events enroute to the win. Overall, 10 different Pirates took a share of first in their event.

Junior Lexi Kolodgie (Baltimore, Md.) took first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:43.56. Junior Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.) touched the wall first in both the 200 and 400 Frees. Stankiewicz finished with times of 2:09.50 and 4:30.20, respectively, while also swimming the first leg of the first place team in the 200 Free Relay.

Freshmen Madeline Bachand (Raleigh, N.C.) and Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) continued their strong starts with each picking up individual victories. Bachand paced the pool in the 800 free with a time of  9:19.80. Cripps picked up the victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:18.66

In diving, junior Taylor Jackson (Thornton, Colo.) took first in both events. Jackson led the field with a score of 221.09 in the 1 mtr dive and  223.72 in the 3 mtr dive.

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, January when they take on Delaware at home at 1 p.m. The meet will also serve as Senior Day for the Pirates.

Fairfield, Conn. –  The Pirates had an impressive start to the 2020 season picking up a victory over the Fairfield Stags, 177-64. Overall, the Pirates touched the wall first in all 13 events on Sunday.

Senior Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) took first in both the 200 IM and 400 Free. Gibson swam a time of 2:08.78 in the medley and followed that victory up with a time of 4:08.56 in the 400 Free.

Continuing the Pirates’ success in the freestyle events was sophomore Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) who picked up victories in both the 100 Free and 200 Free. LaClair touched the wall in 52.46 in the 100 and 1:54.64 in the 200.

Freshman Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.) continued his strong start to his collegiate career taking first in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:07.05. Pantano also swam the first leg of the first place 200 medley relay team.

In diving, senior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) picked up first place finishes in both the 1 and 3 mtr diving events. Lynch took home scores of 215.40 in the 1 mtr and 215.85 in the 3 mtr.

Overall, 11 different Pirates took a share of first in their event.

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday, January when they take on Delaware at home at 1 p.m. The meet will also serve as Senior Day for the Pirates.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving both fell short this afternoon against Seton Hall as the men were defeated by a score of 64-177 and the women fell 68-175.

On the women’s side, Alexandra Miko-RydzajColleen YoungMorgan Hansen, and Maria Nitti started the day with a second-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay with a time of 2:02.70. Sara Ostensen followed with a second-place finish in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle at 9:26.32. Ostensen also placed second in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly (2:26.12). Morgan Hansen picked up a first-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:26.82. Colleen Young finished second in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke at 2:48.96. Nitti, Hansen, Emily Holman, and Ostensen finished the day with a second-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay clocking in at 1:51.64. Rachel Landry placed third in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle (2:13.39) while Samantha D’Alessandro finished third in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle (28.30). Julia Courtney also finished third in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke (2:27.62).

Caitlin Campbell placed second in the 3 Meter Diving with a final score of 181.94 while Erin Wind finished third in the 1 Meter Diving (187.87).

For the men, Will RobinsonPeter SloanJordan Rahurahu, and Benjamin Kebbell placed second in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.61. Patrick Boyle followed with a second-place finish in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle clocking in at 8:45.12. Erik Hren finished in second in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle at 1:55.40 which is a new school record and third in the 100 SC Meter Freesytle (53.68). Benjamin Kebbell picked up a second-place finish in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with a final time of 4:13.39. Ian Nelson placed third in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle (24.73), Jordan Rahurahu came in third in the 200 SC Meter Individual (2:11.50), and Will Robinson finished third in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke (2:14.50). Evan Fair also placed third in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke (2:28.47). Hren, Peter Gori, Fair, and Nelson finished the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay at 1:38.14.

Samuel Tonole placed second in the 1 Meter Diving with a final score of 211.50 while Lukas Stanton finished second in the 3 Meter Diving at 214.87.

“Today we saw a strong opponent in Seton Hall” said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. “We like to schedule against Big East and other tough opponents out of the MAAC. We believe it gives us a look ahead for the conference championship level. Many of the races today came down to the last 15 meters. Today proved that we can race with anyone in our region we just need to make sure we are closing out the tight races.”

The Stags will return to action on Saturday, January 18 at 1 P.M. as they head to New Rochelle, New York to take on Iona.
