The 2019 Gyor Open concluded over the weekend, with several of Hungary’s Olympic athletes taking to the pool to wrap up their calendar year.

18-year-old Ajna Kesely was successful across several events at the meet, including the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m free to capture 4 golds in all. The teen first took on the 800m free, touching in 8:26.84 to top the podium by almost 30 seconds. Her 200m free was also a decisive win, with Kesely touching in 2:00.20.

In the 400m free, the event in which Kesely took bronze at this year’s European Short Course Championships, she clocked a winning effort of 4:09.60. That was well off her PB of 4:01.31 that garnered her a 4th place finish in Gwangju at this year’s World Championships, but enough to get the job done by almost 10 seconds here in Gyor.

Finally in the women’s 100m free, Kesely logged a winning time of 56.90.

Richard Bohus was another multi-event winner for the home nation, reaping gold in the 50m back, 100m back and 100m free over the course of the 4-day affair.

He raced his way to 53.68 in the men’s 100m back to come within .28 of Laszlo Cseh’s 53.40 national record the Olympic icon set back at the 2012 Olympic Games. Bohus’ time here represented just the 3rd time the 26-year-old has ever been under the 54-second threshold in the event. His time checks in as a big new personal best, overtaking the 53.94 from this year’s World Championships.

Adam Telegdy also nailed a new personal best en route to taking gold in the 200m backstroke. Hitting the wall in a time of 1:56.48, Telegdy not only collected the only mark under 2:00 in the field, but his time overtakes his previous career-quickest of 1:56.69 from the 2017 World Championships.

Additional Winners:

  • Serbian veteran Velimir Stjepanovic hit the 200m/400m free double, topping the podium in a time of 1:47.05 in the former and 3:49.11 in the latter.
  • Austria’s Christopher Rothbauer produced a time of 2:11.81 to win the men’s 200m breast.
  • Zsuzsanna Jakabos struck 200m fly gold, touching in a time of 2:08.80.
  • The men’s 1500m free saw David Huszti put up a winning mark of 15:32.36.
  • Mihajlo Ceprkalo of Bosnia-Herzegovina produced a winning time of 52.93 in the 100m fly to establish a new lifetime best.
