The Cali Condors’ Caeleb Dressel swam to new American and U.S. Open records in the short course meters 100 free at the 2019 ISL Grand Finale Saturday in Las Vegas.
Dressel won the event in 45.22 (21.65/23.57), taking four tenths off his 45.62 American records and .45 off his 45.69 U.S. Open Record. His previous American record was from the 2018 FINA Short Course World Championships, and the U.S. Open record from the ISL stop in College Park in November.
London Roar’s Kyle Chalmers took second Saturday in 45.55 and teammate Duncan Scott third in 46.09. Dressel finished over two seconds ahead of eighth-place finisher Bowe Becker, who was 47.39.
The short course meters 100 free world record sits at 44.94, done by France’s Amaury Leveaux at the 2013 Short Course World Championships. Dressel was under world record pace at the 50, but fell off slightly.
Friday, Dressel took down Florent Manaudou’s nine-year-old world record in the 50 free, going 20.24.

Whatever happened to Amaury Leveaux’s comeback? Last I heard he was going to be training at USC, haven’t heard anything since.
In the article on French SCM Nationals, there was mention of Amaury going a 21 mid for the 50 meter free.
He as finally decided to train under one of is former coaches Éric Rebourg in Dijon, then he decided about a month ago to join the Mulhouse team with Franck Horter because of the training environment was getting worst and worst (weight room crowded, less swim lines etc)
