On-fire Dutch ace Kira Toussaint was at it again, lowering her hours-old European Short Course Championships record in the 100m backstroke print in tonight’s semi-final.
After already racing her way to a new Dutch national record and CR of 55.26 in this morning’s heats, Toussaint took things up a notch to bust out a huge 55.17. That sliced .09 off of her morning outing, but also gives her more than a second advantage over the next closest swimmer heading into tomorrow night’s final. Russian Mariia Kameneva is next in line, seemingly a mile back in 56.37.
Splits for Toussaint’s morning swim included 26.57/28.69 to clock the 55.26 that took over Hungarian Katinka Hosszu’s old meet mark of 55.42 from 4 years ago. Tonight, Toussaint tore up the pool in a 26.42 opener, closing in 28.76 to bring her to the wall in 55.17.
Here previous national record and lifetime best entering Glasgow stood at the 55.58 she set just over a week ago at the ISL European Derby in London.
History-making-wise, Toussaint now checks-in as the 3rd fastest performer all-time in this SCM 100m back event.
