Yeadon, Douglass Headline ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame’s Zach Yeadon has been selected as the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and Duke’s Nathaniel Hernandez has been named Diver of the Week. Virginia’s Kate Douglass has been tabbed as the ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, and Louisville’s Molly Fears has been named Diver of the Week.

Swimming at the Ohio State Invitational against three ranked teams, Yeadon won six of his seven races. The junior from San Antonio, Texas, clocked a 14:32.48 in the 1650 freestyle, an NCAA automatic-qualifying time and the fastest time in the nation this season.

Hernandez won two of the three diving competitions at the NC State/GAC Invitational, which featured six ranked teams. The senior from Southlake, Texas, won the 1-meter competition with a score of 357.10 and the platform competition with a score of 372.80. His score of 364.90 in the 3-meter event was good for second place.

A native of Pelham, New York, Douglass had an outstanding performance at the Tennessee Swimming & Diving Invite. Swimming against three ranked teams, including No. 2 Tennessee and No. 8 Georgia, the rookie placed in the top four in seven of her eight races, winning three. Douglass was part of two ACC records at the meet, clocking an NCAA automatic time in the 200 individual medley with a 1:52.84, and she was part of the record-setting 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:33.91 along with teammates Caroline Gmelich, Alexis Wenger and Morgan Hill. Douglass also recorded the country’s fastest time this season in the 200 breaststroke with an NCAA automatic standard of 2:06.19.

Fears recorded top-three finishes in all three diving events at the NC State/GAC Invitational. The senior from Plainfield, Indiana, won the 1-meter competition with a score of 281.55. She placed second in the 3-meter event, scoring a 327.40, and she finished third on platform with a score of 234.05.
