Winter Juniors Qualifier Anna Gruvberger Verbally Commits to Cornell

Anna Gruvberger, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Hinsdale, Illinois has verbally committed to the application process* at Cornell University. Gruvberger swims for Academy Bullets Swim Club and for Hinsdale Central High School in the greater Chicago area. She will join in Joelle Ohr in the class of 2024.

Gruvberger specializes in sprint fly and free. At the 2019 Illinois Swimming LSC Senior Championships, she anchored the winning 400 free relay to a new state record. at Winter Junior Nationals for the past four years. Individually, she finaled in the 50/100 free, 10/200 fly, and 200 IM. Grubverger has competed at Winter Juniors for the past four years. In 2018 she swam the 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

In high school swimming, she was 13th in prelims of the 100 fly (56.48) and contributed the fly leg (25.29) on the 4th-place 200 medley relay and the leadoff leg (52.36) of the 8th-place 400 free relay at the 2019 IHSA Girls State Championship. As a junior, she finished 12th in the 100 fly at the state high school meet with 56.50, and as a sophomore she came in 4th with 55.43. Gruvberger has broken six school records, including the 100 free and 100 fly individually, and was named team captain in 2019. This year, she was also awarded the Triple Impact Competitor Scholarship by the Positive Coaching Alliance.

Gruvberger’s best times would have helped Cornell at the 2019 Ivy League Women’s Championships with C-final appearances in the 100 fly and 100 free. It took 23.73 to get a second swim in the 50 free and 2:04.46 in the 200 IM.

  • 50 fly – 25.67
  • 100 free – 51.09
  • 50 free – 24.21
  • 200 IM – 2:06.85
