Erika Brown Swims 7th-Fastest 100 Yard Fly in History at Tennessee Invitational

Tennessee senior Erika Brown and Virginia freshman Kate Douglass both climbed the all-time rankings in the women’s 100 yard butterfly on Friday at the Tennessee Invitational.

Brwon won the race in a new lifetime best of 49.79, while Douglass finished 2nd in 50.30. For Brown, that swim is the 7th-best performance in history, though she remains the 4th-best performer in history, while Douglass is now the 2nd-fastest 17-18 in the history of the event.

Brown’s previous best time was a 49.85 done at both the 2018 and 2019 SEC Championship meets. She added time at NCAAs in both events.

Douglass, meanwhile, now ranks as the 10th-best performer in history, and the 2nd-best performer in history among 17-18 year olds. The only swimmer faster is Olivia Bray, a current high school senior who is committed to Texas next season. Bray swam a 50.19 at the Virginia Short Course Senior Championships in March. While Douglass is a freshman in college and Bray a senior in high school, Douglass, who just turned 18 on Sunday, is just a couple of weeks older than Bray is.

The times rank 1st and 2nd among official NCAA swims this season, for now, though Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil swam faster (49.57) at an intrasquad meet that USA Swimming recognizes but the NCAA doesn’t.
