The excitement from last night continued this morning in Knoxville, with Erika Brown showing up and showing out again this morning. The versatile sprint star kicked off the day with a season best 50.54 in the women’s 100 fly this morning. Brown then turned around and roared to a huge lifetime best 1:41.66 in the 200 free. She had not been under 1:42 flat-start before in her career, and took the top seed for tonight by 4 3 seconds. Brown also swam the 100 back this morning, touching in a tame (for Erika Brown) 52.02. When all was said and done, Brown tallied up 3 top seeds for tonight this morning, so we’ll have to wait and see what she ends up swimming tonight.
Kate Douglass continued to impress, swimming yet another lifetime best in the women’s 100 fly, touching in 51.23 for 2nd behind Brown. That time came in under Douglass’ previous best of 51.29, which she swam a month ago. Douglass also swam a 59.68 in the 100 breast, coming in just off her lifetime best, which she swam a month ago as well.
Tennessee’s Tess Cieplucha swam a speedy 4:04.78 in the women’s 400 Im this morning, taking the top seed for tonight by 3.5 seconds. Cieplucha took the race out quick, turning at the 200 mark with a speedy 1:57.92 (55.79/1:02.13). Meghan Small swam a 4:08.23 this morning, which was faster than she swam all of last season.
UGA’s Camden Murphy swam a 45.66 to take the top seed for tonight by nearly a full second. The time comes in just .63 seconds off Murphy’s lifetime best of 45.03, swum last season. UVA’s Joe Clark was also approaching his lifetime best this morning, touching in 45.93 in the men’s 100 back. Clark led the field this morning, coming in just .76 seconds off his lifetime best.
Clayton Forde of UGA turned in a quick 3:45.47 to lead the field in the men’s 400 IM this morning. We could see Forde threaten his lifetime best of 4:41.14 tonight. Teammate Andrew Abruzzo was right behind Forde, finishing in 3:45.62, also close to his personal best of 3:42.94.
Michael Houlie of Tennessee swam to a top seed for tonight in the men’s 100 breast, clocking a 52.33. That time is notably under what it took to earn an invite to NCAAs last season (52.52). Houlie has a tough field behind him heading into tonight, including IU’s Zane Backes, who was an All-American in the event last season as a freshman.
Tennessee’s Alec Connolly led a very tight field in the men’s 200 free, finishing first in 1:35.41. Mohamed Samy (IU) was right behind in a time of 1:35.71. 1st-5th this morning were all 1:35s, with UGA’s Walker Higgins taking 3rd in 1:35.80, Jakub Karl coming in 4th in 1:35.87, and UVA’s Sam Schilling taking 5th in 1:35.91.
Erika swam A LOT of events so far….impressive!
Boomshakalaka!
Worth mentioning that Zoie Hartman swam a 58.76 in the 100 Breast this morning.
She shaved two seconds off her previous best. Crazy.
Smokin’ great time, Great to see her range from 50 to 200.
She split 1:40 on a relay already tho
If it correlates with the same level of improvement in 200LCM then the huge (20) group of contenders for the spot on Olympic 4×200 relay got one more member. The best time of Erica Brown in this event this season was 2:00.09
As of today
#20 is Katie Drabot with the time 1:58.90
#6 is Gabby DeLoof with the time 1:57.62

Interesting that Tennessee is scratching some of their kids from events at finals. Guess they’re not too worried about the team race?
Does anyone care about the team race at a mid season invite?
A few related notes – UVA is not worried about team race either as they did not enter any team in the Women’s 800 Free Relay tonight. Their “A” team would have won…unless DQ’d. Additionally, UVA has no divers here, so UT is raking in the diving points!
Great point, but Tennessee is beating Virginia by 248.5 points. Diving might be worth some, but definitely not all of those.
Clearly not Virginia with all of those relay false starts…
I think they are more concerned about getting qualifying times than overextending their swimmers. Notice that their am swim schedule is pretty packed!
Curious to see what Brown swims tonight!
I also wonder if she will swim 200 free instead of 100 fly at NCAAs. Seems like more of an open field.
