Two-time 2019 Girls SVL Champion Delaney Wesolek Commits to Hope College

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Delaney Wesolek of Bay City, MI has decided to remain in-state with a verbal commitment to Division III Hope College beginning in the fall of 2020. Wesolek swims year-round for the Bay City Aquatics Club and is currently finishing her final season as a member of John Glenn High School’s swim team.

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Hope College.  I feel in love with the campus and the team and staff made me feel right at home. I want to thank my family, friends and coaches for getting me ready for this next chapter in my life.  Thank you to Coach Taber for being as excited as I am for this! Go Dutch!”

Wesolek most recently earned a gold and three silver medals at the 2019 Girls SVL Championships. The John Glenn High School senior earned her first medal and a personal best time in the 200 free (1:55.16), powering to the wall 3 seconds ahead of silver medalist Ella Roberson of Dow High School. Wesolek swam the 100 back near the end of the meet, earning another a personal best time and a silver medal. She touched the wall right behind Grand Blanc High School’s Sophie Curtis. Curtis and Wesolek were the only two women to go sub-1:00 in the 100 back. Wesolek rounded out the meet leading off both the 200 and 400-free relays, bringing home two more medals.

In March of 2019, Wesolek won two events at the Michigan Swimming White Junior Olympics Championships. She touched the wall a full second ahead of the next competitor in the 500 free, clocking in at 5:26.75. In the 200 back, she was able to hold off Megan Neely of Aqua Swim Club as she threatened to come from behind and win the gold. Wesolek out-touched Neely by 0.38 seconds in a time of 2:13.24.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 free – 1.55.16
  • 50 free – 24.50
  • 100 free – 52.86
  • 100 back – 58.90
  • 200 back – 2.13.24

Wesolek’s top times would have placed her in the A-final in four events at the 2019 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Assiciation Championships: the 50, 100, and 200 free, and the 100 back. She is joining a strong program and will get one year to train and compete alongside fellow free and backstroker Meg Peel.
